Zendesk Chatbot Options: What It Costs and What Else Works

Short answer: Zendesk’s AI agents are included across the Suite plans, but the included allowance is small — reported as around 5 automated resolutions per agent per month on Suite Team, 10 on Professional and 15 on Enterprise. Almost everything above that is billed as overage, typically in the region of $1.20 to $1.50 per resolution. If you run a real support operation, Zendesk is the right platform. If you just need your website to answer questions, it is a great deal of machinery to buy for that.

Pricing checked 15 August 2026. All figures are taken from each provider’s own published pricing page on that date and are quoted in the currency they publish in. Prices change — check the source before making a decision.

What Zendesk’s chatbot actually is

Zendesk sells AI agents that sit on top of its Suite. They answer customer questions, deflect tickets, and hand over to human agents in the same system. Because everything lives inside Zendesk, the handover is genuinely seamless in a way bolt-on tools struggle to match — the AI and the human are looking at the same ticket.

That integration is the reason to buy it. It is also the reason you have to buy the Suite to get it.

What it costs

Item Price
Support Team $19 per agent/month, billed yearly
Suite Team $55 per agent/month, billed yearly
Suite Professional $115 per agent/month, billed yearly
Suite Enterprise Contact sales
Copilot add-on $50 per agent/month
Automated resolutions Small monthly allowance per agent, then roughly $1.20–$1.50 each

Checked 15 August 2026 against Zendesk’s published pricing. Resolution allowances and overage rates are reported from contract analysis rather than a public rate card, so confirm your own numbers with Zendesk before budgeting.

Why the allowance matters more than the headline price

Five included resolutions per agent per month is not a meaningful allowance against real deflection volume — it is a rounding error. A five-agent Suite Team account gets 25 included resolutions. If your AI handles 1,000 conversations, 975 of them are overage.

At $1.50 that is around $1,463 a month in overage, on top of $275 in seat costs. The seat price is the part everyone compares; the overage is the part that determines the bill.

Your options

Your situation What makes sense
Running a contact centre with tiers and SLAs Zendesk. The platform is the point.
Already on Zendesk, moderate AI volume Use the built-in agents. Integration beats savings at this scale.
Already on Zendesk, high AI volume Negotiate a committed resolution pack, or move the website-answering layer off Zendesk.
On Zendesk mainly for the chat widget You are paying enterprise prices for an answering tool.
Small team, no ticketing needs A standalone answering tool will cost a fraction and set up in an afternoon.

Holp as the answering layer instead

Holp reads your website and answers visitors’ questions from your own content. It is not a helpdesk and does not try to be one.

Holp Zendesk Suite Team + AI
Pricing Flat monthly by conversation Per agent + per resolution overage
1,000 AI conversations, 5 people £95/month ~$1,738/month
Team members Unlimited Per agent
Ticketing, SLAs, routing No Yes, extensive
Setup An afternoon Implementation project

Figures are in each company’s own currency. And in fairness: Zendesk is selling a contact centre platform. If you need ticketing, workforce management and phone routing, that price buys them. Holp does not.

When to stay with Zendesk

If you have agents working queues, SLAs to hit, tiered escalation, phone channels or compliance requirements that Zendesk already satisfies, stay. Swapping a contact centre platform for an answering widget would be a mistake, and we would rather say that here than sell you something that does not fit.

Frequently asked questions

Does Zendesk include a chatbot?

Yes, AI agents are included across the Suite plans, but with a small monthly allowance of automated resolutions per agent. Resolutions above that allowance are charged as overage.

How much does Zendesk’s AI cost?

Seats run from $19 to $115 per agent per month billed yearly, with Copilot a further $50 per agent. Automated resolutions beyond the included allowance are reported at roughly $1.20–$1.50 each. Checked 15 August 2026.

How many automated resolutions are included?

Reported as approximately 5 per agent per month on Suite Team, 10 on Professional and 15 on Enterprise. Confirm with Zendesk for your own contract, as these are not published as a public rate card.

Is there a cheaper Zendesk chatbot alternative?

For answering website questions, yes, by a wide margin — flat-rate tools do not bill per agent or per resolution. For ticketing and contact centre operations, no; nothing cheap replaces that.

Can I use a different chatbot alongside Zendesk?

Yes. Some organisations keep Zendesk for ticketing and run a separate answering layer on the public website, so routine questions never become tickets in the first place.
